The Allendale Water Department is committed to providing all our consumers with high quality drinking water. The Allendale Water Department is regulated by The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to comply with all regulations under Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Each year we are required to monitor and treat our drinking water for any potentially harmful contaminants and we are pleased to say that our drinking water meets all Federal and State Drinking Water Requirements. A Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is printed and is provided to all consumers and additional copies are available at The Allendale Water Department at 100 New Street. If you would like additional information or if you have any questions, feel free to call the water department at (201) 818-4413.
Water is distributed to consumers through approximately 27 miles of a water main that range in size from 6 inch diameter to 16 inch diameter located in the streets and right of ways. Water mains are constructed of cast iron or Ductile iron piping with cement lining. There are approximately 2500 service connections ranging in size from 3/4 inch to 8-inch diameter serving buildings for fire protection. Over 1000 valves control the water system and 400 fire hydrants provide fire safety to the Borough.
Wastewater is collected through 34 miles of clay piping that range in size from 8 inch to 24-inch sewer mains. The wastewater collection system is a gravity-feed system that collects and delivers wastewater to The Northwest Bergen Sewer Authority in Waldwick.
If permits are required please call for current fees and charges.
In the event of any emergencies such as water main breaks, the water utility utilizes the Reverse 9-1-1 System to notify our residents by phone. This system allows the utility to generate a pre-recorded message within minutes to areas of the Borough that are affected.
The Borough of Allendale Water & Sewer Department employs six individuals to maintain the water distribution system and sanitary sewer collection system. Two operators are certified and licensed by The State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). A Water Collector maintains the billing system, provides customer service and coordinates daily operations for the utility. Two Utility workers, one with over thirty years experience, maintain the water distribution systems and the sanitary sewer system as well as all our facilities to provide the highest level of quality and service to our residents. A meter reader is employed for the installation, repair and reading of meters.
Each year The Allendale Water Department collects more than 1000 water samples. Samples include Organic, Inorganic V.O.C.'s which test for natural of manmade contaminants in the "raw" or untreated water and the "finished" or treated water supply. Other tests include bacteria, lead and copper. All tests results are filed with the NJDEP, the agency responsible for monitoring and regulating the drinking water in New Jersey.
The Allendale Water & Sewer Department Facilities consist of five active wells. Wells #11 and #17 are capable of producing up to 500,000 gallons per day (GPD). Wells #2, #4, and #15 are capable of producing 450,000 GPD. All wells are treated with chlorine solution as required to conform to the NJDEP standards. The New Street Treatment Facility provides year round treatment for Wells #2, #4 and #15 using diffused bubbling aeration and chlorination. The average daily demand of the water system is approximately 853,000 GPD with a peak of 2,000,000 GPD. The Water Department maintains an interconnections with United Water, and also has emergency interconnections with Ramsey and Village of Ridgewood. The Borough also has two water storage tanks including a 1,000,000-gallon ground storage tank with a booster pump station and a 400,000 elevated tank located in Ramsey. The Sanitary Sewer Department consists of a collection system.

Water bills are sent quarterly, the first week of January, April, July and September. All charges are based on consumption in a 90 day cycle. To avoid estimated bills, please call in, mail the orange card or email your reading to the Water Department. E-mails should be sent to Allendalewater@hotmail.com.
