Special Needs Program
The Allendale Police Department is introducing a series of programs to aid our residents during storms, medical emergencies, motor vehicle crashes and other serious events. While these programs are not all managed by us, we can serve as a liaison to them, and maintain the necessary data which can be used during time of need. To this end, we have developed a form, our Special Needs Registry form, which captures the information necessary for each program.
We have witnessed the frustration of residents and emergency responders during power outages, motor vehicle crashes and medical emergencies when information or people which could be of assistance cannot be located. Our goal is to pull the available resources and information together and offer to residents the ability to gain access to these various programs which may help them, either on a daily basis or during critical incidents.
The starting point for all these programs and resources is our Special Needs Registry. This form is designed to gather the information needed for each program and store it in one secure location, accessible only to our police officers, who then would share it with first responders on an as-needed basis. This form is available to anyone who may need assistance, whether it be for power to run a medical device, insulin or oxygen dependency, limited mobility or other disability. Residents with special needs anywhere on the Autism Spectrum or any other cognitive challenge are also encouraged to participate. Having family contact information, medical needs, and any other type of information such as likes and dislikes can assist us in assuring the resident is properly cared for.
The individual programs that are being connected with the Allendale Police Department’s Special Needs Registry are the Yellow Dot Program, Vial of Life Program, Project Lifesaver, Lifeline and Operation Reassurance. A brief description of each program is contained in the Special Needs Resources document. If you or a family member are interested in any of these programs, please fill out the Special Needs Registry Form.
