Mayor's Message

The Borough of Allendale is a residential community of about 6,800 residents. Incorporated in 1894, Allendale is located in Bergen County, just outside of New York City. The Borough was named after Joseph Warner Allen, a surveyor for the Erie Railroad.

Allendale prides itself on award-winning schools, the number, and variety of our volunteer groups, and our friendly staff. Downtown is vibrant and charming, with many unique restaurants and shops, and is conveniently located next to the NJ Transit train station.

The “gems” of Allendale include the Celery Farm, consisting of over 107 acres of preserved wetlands and home to over 248 species of birds; Crestwood Park, which includes beautiful Crestwood Lake, a bandshell, and athletic fields; and the historic home of John Fell, a Revolutionary War hero.

Allendale has retained its sense of history and strives to maintain a character that is reminiscent of times gone by. The Borough and its volunteer organizations host many community activities that include the Memorial Day parade, Field Day with old-fashioned games for children, a 5K run, sports tournaments, Holiday Walk, Fall Festival, Candlelight 9-11 ceremony, Fourth of July fireworks and “Hot dogs at the Firehouse” to name a few of the events that reflect and maintain the old town charm. Of course, the wonderful residents of Allendale are what stands out above all to make Allendale a great place to live!
